A system of thought that everything in
the universe is connected. The
the connection between humans and the
the universe is magical. The earth
pigments used in the work are a part
of our universe, Using these authentic
colors helped me in depicting the
cosmos realistically. The pigments are
sourced locally and are grinded
traditionally using mortar and pestle to
retain its grainy texture.

JAGRUTHI HYMA. A self-taught abstract artist. I work with natural pigments like charcoal, soil, limestone, turmeric, etc. I love experimenting with earth pigments and their combinations. I try to emphasize working with sustainable art techniques to reduce carbon footprints and help the planet thrive.
My work explores the area of connection between our earth and its incredible natural colors.
I experiment with confined shapes for perfection and also with the flow of my thoughts to present shapeless abstraction. I believe in diversity and love making pigments and tools from what is available around me. I have always been a curious learner and an enthusiastic person. My work makes the viewer feel the textures of the earth and the importance of soil, and it takes them back to the thought that we are from the soil and eventually go back to the soil. A few of my works are made to connect the viewer to the universe and its magical depths. My aim in my practice of abstract art is to discover more natural pigments and achieve 100% sustainability in the process of making art.
It isn't easy to stick to 4–5 earth pigments and make art when the world is shining vibrantly with different forms of painting pigments and techniques that are not sustainable. But my heartfelt connection to discovering the materials available around me, from sourcing the pigments, making paint from scratch, and finally making them flow onto the canvas, each stage gives me immense strength, confidence, and excitement to explore more. And connect deeply to the earth and the universe. I derive inspiration from the motherland for its diverse colors and serene textures.
