This acrylic paint artwork depicts the concept of Resurrection or Anastasis through the mythical creature, the Phoenix, which is an eternal symbol of life after death or hope after destruction. When the dragon feels cleansed of its misdeeds, he rises above himself and seems to be “resurrected” from his own ashes, taking the form of the majestic Phoenix. The human mind also undergoes a similar transformation after the fog clouding better judgement has cleared. When sanity returns, the mind emerges from its catastrophic existence like the Phoenix, stronger, smarter and more powerful, ready to make a fresh start. To bring out the glowing brilliance of the phoenix’s majestic plumage, the brightest tones of yellow, orange and red have been used. This effect has been enhanced further with the technique of Impasto painting, where paint is laid on an area of the painting surface in very thick layers, usually thick enough to make the brush or palette-knife strokes visible. When dry, impasto provides texture and the paint appears to be “coming out” of the canvas.

NEHA SINGH. A Fashion Designer by professional qualification and a self-taught artist who is passionate about innovating, I found my calling in art and decided to delve into the depths of this exquisite form of self-expression. Although I specialize in oil paints as a medium, my work also includes other media like acrylics, precisely the technique of acrylic pouring. I have been painting and creating original works of art from whatever inspires me at the spur of the moment. I like to experiment with different techniques of painting, with an aim to create texture in my art pieces, thereby giving them a three-dimensional effect. I am highly fascinated by colors, hence most of my artworks have a vibrant color palette. Apart from oils and acrylics, I do try my hand with dry mediums like chalk pastels, charcoal, and pencil color every once in a while. I have tried my level best to hone my skills and expand my horizons. It is my endeavor to produce unique works of art with a tactile feel, which are not only realistic in nature but also a visual and symbolic representation of the intangible.
